Zurich Chinatown Year of the Horse Moodboard

As the Year of the Snake approaches its final weeks, Zurich Chinatown is already looking ahead. On 17 February 2026, the Year of the Horse begins — associated with major transformation, courage, and bold action. Our latest merch release is heavily influenced by this association.

Its inspiration comes from the Tang dynasty horse of Xi’an, 西安唐马.

The Tang dynasty horse is one of the most recognisable visual symbols of Xi'an. Originating from the Tang dynasty (618–907), these horse figures stand for confidence, prosperity and international exchange along the Silk Road. Xi’an, then the imperial capital, was a global city long before the term existed. And the Tang dynasty - this was China's golden age.

From these visuals emerges Zurich Chinatown’s own Tang horse 唐马 - let's call it Zurich Tang horse, 苏黎世唐马. Rendered in Mandarin Orange, the horse steps decisively into the future. The colour picks up the element of 2026: fire. And it signals confidence, energy and foresight - all while marking a clear departure from historical replicas.
