sinokultur: A Bridge Between Cultures

Updated: Nov 25

In our virtual map of Zurich Chinatown, we highlight not only delicious restaurants and well-stocked shops—but also the cultural institutions that make Chinese life in Zurich so multifaceted. One that we want to hightlight is sinokultur, an independent, non-profit organization with a powerful mission: to foster a contemporary, complex, and vibrant understanding of Chinese culture in Switzerland.

Since 1997: Building Cultural Bridges: Based in Zurich since 1997, sinokultur has been working to go beyond clichés and promote meaningful dialogue between Switzerland and China. Its events are shaped to connect people—creatives, the public, institutions—across borders and cultural perspectives.

More Than Just Events: What makes sinokultur stand out is the wide range of formats and support they offer like exhibitions, lectures and cultural tours. An audience's favourite is the Salon series, where artists, writers, and musicians present their work and engage directly with audiences. Additionally, they provide advisory services and network support for cultural professionals working on projects between Switzerland and China. For those eager to keep up with Chinese-related events in Zurich, their cultural event agenda is a must-follow resource.

Supporting Artists and Cultural Projects: sinokultur backs 1–3 remarkable cultural projects annually. In 2025, one such project is by Chinese artist Jiaxi Han, who hails from Guizhou and is part of the Buyi ethnic minority. Her work delves into how modernization affects traditional Miao batik techniques in southwest China. Jiaxi documents the balance of cultural preservation and economic independence, focusing on Miao women who use batik as both art and livelihood. Her project will produce a video documentary, reflections, and batik art by herself and Miao craftswomen, emphasizing the evolving nature of intangible heritage.

Why We’ve Placed sinokultur on Our Map: At Zurich Chinatown, we believe in showing the full richness of what makes up the Asian community in Zurich. sinokultur is not only a platform—it’s a meeting point, a think tank, and a connector. If you're interested in Chinese literature, art, music, or launching your own intercultural project, sinokultur should be on your radar.

You’ll find sinokultur on our interactive Zurich Chinatown map—located at Klosbachstrasse 109, Zurich, and globally connected through their networks in Switzerland and China.
